Review of Dragons Lucky 8 Slot by Wazdan
Wazdan tends to do a lot of things right with their slot machines, and I think that Dragons Lucky 8 slot is a pretty good example of that. Even though you get a slot machine with a fruit theme, the 6-reel layout with 20 lines is not as boring as what you’d expect, plus you get good graphics and multipliers to improve the game further. You might be seeing fruits on the reels of this slot, but there is also a very clear Chinese influence, with background graphics and reel decorations consisting of their usual red and gold, with Yin Yang logos and Dragons placed in several areas.
You have a pretty good mix of features here, and the list of options includes:

Theme and Graphics
The game has other strengths, which we’re talking about in this review, but the theme selection isn’t one of them. It’s sporting a Chinese-style design, but relies on classic fruits on its reels, at least for the regular symbols. That particular list of symbols includes red apples, apricots, melons, grapes, oranges and pineapples. As feature symbols, we get themed icons with the Yin Yang logo multipliers, Tiger Scatters and Dragon Wilds.
I think you will be satisfied with the design quality, even if the Chinese theme’s implementation doesn’t impress. It might feature mostly fruit symbols on its reels, but they are all very well crafted, with attention to detail and colouring that makes them look better than the real thing. The usual Chinese style mountains with temples on their peaks will serve as background to the action.
Special Features
I didn’t find any major features in Dragons Lucky 8, that somebody else hasn’t done before, but that doesn’t mean that they’re not going to be fun. Don’t expect anything completely unique here, but the features involved are still going to provide a solid experience.
Variable Win Multipliers: The Variable Win Multiplier comes from a single symbol, which may appear only once per spin. Depending on the value found on it (1x, 3x, 5x and 8x possible), the wins from that point forward will be multiplied by that amount. For example, if you get a Yin Yang logo with the 8x multiplier, all wins will be boosted by that much, until you get a different symbol, with another multiplier. You can have multiple rounds with a high multiplier until you get a lower one.
Wild Symbols: You’re going to have the Wild Dragon symbol to assist you in the formation of any new winning combinations, though the role of the substitute isn’t the only one that it gets. That same symbol will pay you directly as well, but you need it landing 3 to 6 times on a single line, and lined up so that it can create its own combinations (paying up to 500x on each line where this happens).
Free Spins: The final feature symbol that we’re going to discuss, the Tiger Scatter will activate this feature, just by appearing 3 to 6 times in view, anywhere on the reels. Depending on the exact number of Tigers in view, the game gives you 15 to 30 free spins. There will be the option to retrigger this feature, using the same 3+ Tiger scatters as before.
Betting and Jackpots
Some of the options that you’re given will be fixed, while others can be changed by the player. With $1 to $5 coins selected for each of the slot’s 20 active lines, the wagers will have a value between $20 and $100. You will not have the option to select only some of the active lines, you always play with all of them active.
The typical jackpot in Dragons Lucky 8 is worth 500x total stake, so potentially up to $50,000 could be yours, using only combinations of wilds on all paylines. An even better alternative would be to have the round’s random multiplier at the highest possible value, of 8x, so you could maybe get paid up to 4,000x then.
One of the things that I found to be very interesting about Wazdan slot machines in general, and about Dragons Lucky 8 as well, is the fact that you have the option to change the volatility for it. The three options are Low, Standard and High. You find all three by clicking on the button from the bottom right corner.
RTP wise, Wazdan announced the return of the game at 96.34%, which is a figure that I’m satisfied with.
Verdict: Once you take all the game’s features and potential into account, you discover a slot with very good top payouts, pretty graphics and interesting gameplay. You wager up to $100 per spin, but the potential of the game, to pay up to 4,000x, is very good. Even better, you decide on your own how volatile the game will be, though that’s something you can find in any Wazdan slot machine. Fans of Chinese themed slots will appreciate it, it’s a pretty good game.
