Review of Merry Xmas Slot by Play n GO
Merry Xmas is one of the traditional Christmas themed slots that you’re going to find in Play n GO’s generous collection. It’s a slot machine that doesn’t have a lot of flaws, and while it’s not the best game around either, if you’re looking for something to keep yourself busy during this particular time of the year, it’s a perfectly decent pick. There is nothing out of the ordinary going on here, it’s the usual story involving Santa, his reindeer and plenty of Christmas decorations, so a lot of the excitement will come through the slot’s features. You get a 5-reel slot machine, which has 15 paylines, where combinations from anywhere on the line, with 3+ adjacent symbols.

Theme & Graphics
The theme of Merry Xmas slot is obvious enough, just based on the game’s title. It’s a Christmas dedicated slot machine, which offers all the traditional graphics that you would expect. Most games that focus on this period of the year will not stray too much from the path, and the look tends to be quite similar from one to the next. Merry Xmas does this as well, but that doesn’t mean that I will not appreciate the comfort that tradition can offer or the fact that the design quality is very high.
Speaking of design quality, it’s a very well done game, and even though it’s a couple of years old by now, it still can compete with any of the recent launches. The game has a background image with a snow-covered forest, while in the front there are reels with Christmas decorations and candles supporting them to the sides.
The game’s big symbols show us the multiplier wilds first, a couple of gift boxes as scatters, and then the regulars. The latter include Santa, Reindeer, Globe, Bells, Candles, Mulled Wine and Candy Cane.
Special Features
I like what Play n GO did with the features introduced in Merry Xmas. The game has a couple of decent options, which can help improve your wins along the way.
In addition to the slot’s more important features, I would also like to mention the way it forms combinations because there will be plenty of instances where you will get additional prizes as a result. This game doesn’t form its wins only when the consecutive matching symbols start from the leftmost column. It also allows for combinations to form with adjacent symbols on the middle three positions of a line, or when there are symbols which touch the rightmost side. It’s great for lower value combinations, though it makes no difference for the 5-symbol ones.
Wild Multipliers: For starters, you get wild multipliers, which not only increase the number of winning combinations formed, but they also boost their value. Several variants of such wilds exist, which will apply multipliers of 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x. None of these wilds is capable of acting as a replacement for the bonus symbol.
It’s with the help of these wild multipliers, that the game will hit its highest potential, so these are important.
Bonus Game: The bonus symbols show up as gifts, and three need to appear for the bonus game to start. You get these symbols on the 1st, 3rd and 5th reels. You have to make a selection next, and the contents of the gift will reveal your prize. A prize of up to 150x the stake can be paid at this point.
Betting & Jackpots
There is quite a bit to work with when it comes to the betting options available to players. Starting from the left and going to the right, we first see the option to set the coin value ($0.01 to $0.25), then the number of coins per line (1 to 5) and the number of lines (1 to 15). Taking it all into account, we find that the slot’s betting range is between $0.01 and $18.75.
The announcement from the developer is that Merry Xmas has a maximum win exposure of 131,715 coins. Given the coin denominations available inside, that would mean a top payout of about $32,928. It’s the equivalent of over 1,750x the stake, which is not a bad payout to be looking at, especially for a game with medium volatility. To be noted is also the game’s RTP, set at 96%.
Verdict: Anyone that is a fan of traditional Christmas style slot machines, will surely love Play n Go’s version of one. They came up with a gorgeous design, they added a couple of wild multipliers which have the potential to make the action interesting, and considering that the volatility is medium, I even declare myself satisfied with the top payout of 1,750x total stake.
